Activities & Study Groups
In the Savernake Team, we provide a range of opportunities for people of all ages to learn more about enjoying life together as Christians.
Study and House Groups for Adults
If you would like to find out about the Christian faith, or to deepen your present understanding, you are very welcome to take the Alpha Course, join a House Group or to enrol on the Bishop's Certificate course. More details follow. These usually meet on weekday evenings, in various places in the Savernake Team.
The Alpha Course
Everyone is very welcome to explore the Christian faith in an informal way through the well-known Alpha Course, held regularly at Burbage. For general information, visit www.alpha.org For local information, contact Janet Hartwell on 01672 515705, or Joyce Kennington on 01672 870478.
House Groups currently meet in on weekday evenings at Burbage, Chute and Shalbourne for prayer, study and fellowship. For more information, contact Amanda Holroyd for Chute (01264 730233) or Canon Stephen Trapnell for Shalbourne (01672 870514).
This is a two year course held on weekday evenings, with some optional Saturday study days. Lead by a tutor, students participate in an in-depth introduction to the Christian faith, covering Old and New Testaments, Church History, Christian Worship and Ethics. Discussion is friendly and lively, and students find the course very interesting and stimulating. On completing the course, students are awarded the Bishop of Salisbury's Certificate at a special service. Some students choose to go on to further theological and pastoral learning.
There is an active branch in Burbage, but people from other parishes are most welcome at meetings which are held in the Church centre at 2.00 p.m. on the last Wednesday of the month. There is also a service of Holy Communion on second Wednesdays at 9.30 a.m. For more information, contact Mrs Mary Ford on 01672 810209.
There are bands of ringers at Burbage, Chute, Great Bedwyn, Collingbourne Kingston, Collingbourne Ducis, St Katharine's and Shalbourne. For information, contact Mike Holt on 01264 850621.
